Aux tank filter

Hey what do you guys use for a filter for you aux tanks.

Ive tried a canister type filter, and several in line type filters.

They all plug up with within about 1 or 2 tanks when its cold. I mean zero or below cold. They seem to catch the gelled up parts of the fuel.

This last trip I used winter number 2. It was good for 0 filter plugging and -20. I then added some power service white bottle to help a bit.

Even the fuel I bought in canada plugged my aux tank filter. There is no dirt in it. I cant blow thru it. If I hold the filter to my exhaust for a few mins and warm it, it once again becomes easy to blow thru.

Right now I just hooked up my lines direct to the tank. I use a autozone 40 dollar fuel pump to pump my fuel. Its the type that are solinoid operated. It rattles when it pumps.

Takes maybe 20 mins to fill my lower tank.

I know Im not the only person with this problem. Do you guys even run a aux tank filter?

I run a 2/5 micron after my main truck pump. Never had problems gelling. Coldesnt my truck has been -55 feels like -25 actual temp. I run statapores

Problem is you have no fuel return to warm the fuel in the tank up, your main tank has fuel returning from your injection pump all the time so fuel stays warm aux tank stays cold with thick/gelled fuel. If you plan on running in a cold climate I would suggest getting a fuel heater either heated by your cooling system or electricly. Just my 2cents .

Yep, ive thought about that. I think you hit the nail on the head. Everyone ive asked this week says the same.

You can pump the aux tank fuel no problem. You just cant filter it. It gells the filters in no time.

Thanks for your knowledge! From what I see you are right on..

Maybe I should look into running tubing with engine coolant in the aux tank. Its been a problem every winter.

Stop in a big truck shop and ask to look at a raycore fuel filter setup most new big rigs have them from the factory. Its a fuel filter that has coolant running threw the bottom of it also can be bought with heating elament in bottom.
