85 MPH On Texas Highways

I for one will speak my mind against this if there's a public forum in my area any time soon. Our highways are unsafe as it is now with speed limits at 70, 75, and 80MPH. People are accustomed to pushing it that extra 10 mph over the posted speed limit, and then some. That will mean people will push it to 95 - 100MPH plus probably. Can todays vehicles handle it, sure. BUT, we are NOT TRAINED to be driving speed limits at 95-100MPH.

On top of that, Texans already pay some of the highest insurance rates for personal vehicle coverage in the country. Give it a year or two of this allowed 85MPH driving ability and we'll start seeing our coverage costs go up even further.

Again..........Ridiculous!

I love when I'm going to or from the west coast and I'm cruising at 62 mph and people are flying by me at 90 mph out west of San Anton. Then a hour or so later the same cars pass me again like I'm sitting still lol.

I would love to see no speed limits on major freeways like autobahn. I would love to see higher standards for your dl to get like germany. Higher speed limits will be safer imho. Driving speed limit in most major cities like atlanta very dangerous.

As long as people stay right at slower speeds it'd be fine. But so many dumb asses have to jump right to the middle or left lanes and go slow and screw everything up. And sadly most of the middle lane slow pokes are dumb ass truck drivers.

I enjoy driving 85-90 mph with a hot red head in my lap, but then the seat belt becomes a problem.

I never drive faster than 50mph. I guess that's because everywhere I go is within 2 miles of my house! I drove on the interstate about a month ago for the 1st time in probably a year and was having a stroke cause people were driving like idiots. Don't know how you guys do all this driving. Pretty much everytime I leave my house I'm ready to run someone off the road in the first quarter mile of my trip. Just a slight road rage problem or just no patience for stupid drivers. I had an old lady pull out in front of me on a 3 lane rd. She was coming straight at me cause she was driving into oncoming traffic. WTF.

If EVERYONE would drive the speedlimit in all lanes taffic jams and roadrage would go away. 85 is too fast. There was suppose to be a bill that would set speedlimits at 75 on all divided highways and 70 on the remainder. I heard a rep from Houston on the radio talking about that a while back. TX speed limits are lower than all the other western states except the 80 mph on I-10 in west TX.
