Ford Resubmits Buyout Offers

Ford Motor Co. is offering buyouts to its 41,000 U.S. hourly employees again after failing to persuade union workers to accept further concessions last month, Bloomberg News reported.
Employees represented by the United Auto Workers have until Jan. 22 to accept packages for as much as $75,000, Marcey Evans, a spokeswoman said. Ford offered similar buyouts earlier in 2009, attracting just 1,000 takers even after extending the deadline, she said, Bloomberg said.
“We do still have a surplus of employees in our manufacturing system and we’re working with the UAW to try to manage that,” Evans said.
