Had a flat tire the other day at the auction in Matteson, IL. Felt a small bump between a dealership & about a mile before the auction. Turns out it was the tire breaking the bead.

Called Cassidy tire & service off of truckdown.com. $249 CASH to repair a tire using a mobile tire service. It was a long drug out ugly story but left a review of them on truckdown.com & all I can ask is that if you ever use a service on that site to do the same. W/o reviews you really do not know who you are getting when out of your home area.

Here is what I just left them...

I called these guys because of a flat on my semi truck at a auto auction in Matteson, IL. The positive is that the dispatcher stated up front that the rate was $85 an hour & that the tech was finishing up another call & would probably be an hour until he got to me. It was two hours, but not a problem, winter weather & mobile calls are hard to estimate.

The bad is that the service truck that showed up was lacking all the tools necessary as drivers had switched trucks for what ever reason. Charging me $85 an hour with a truck lacking proper tools taking much longer to remove my wheel.

After finding the screw that had went through the center tread of my tire & the tech called back to his office stating the tire was repairable. While I went to warm my hands up in the truck, he walks back up to my truck after getting off the phone telling me he has to replace the tire with something off of his truck. When I asked him why, he stated the tires were old, the tires were dry rotted, there were tires sent out on the repair truck... He kept digging after reasons to NOT repair a tire in a matching set of Bridgestone 726 EL's with at least 50% tread left.

Bottom line is that either his manager or the tech wants to sell tires on service calls & will flat out lie as to why you need to replace instead of repair. I called the manager & the tech did in fact repair the tire. However the tech & manager argued for a bit on the phone. I did not over hear the conversation, regardless I am still getting charged for all of the time spent while having to deal with a crew willing to lie to make a buck.

Total bill for patching tire was $249 cash on January 7th 2011. Going rate for tire patches at a shop range $25-$35. I understand mobile services charge a premium rate, but with proper tools, no lies & a well trained tech it could have been done much faster w/o the headache of arguing with confused liars.

That bill would have been $750 if I would have bought a tire off that truck. I never asked the price of it or the cap they loaded on the truck, but could damn well bet the new one would have been every bit of $500 plus two hours labor plus the weather is cold charge & what ever else they could come up with.

Am looking for a spare tire/rim tomorrow for the truck. Also anyone know where you can get the tire changing tools ( bars & bead breaker) w/o buying new ones.
