B52's - Blue Angels - What A Cool Day I'm Having................

Been here at the shop since about 11 or so.......

Haven't done a dang thing all day..............

Big Airshow at the Alliance Airport this weekend. (Biggest 1 in Texas) My shop is about 6-7 miles directly South of the Alliance runway. As I was driving out here going down 35 to my 287 exit and then heading North out here to Haslet, I saw a couple of military jets streak across the sky. As I got closer to my shop, more airplanes up in the sky. Got to my shop and as I got out of my truck, I heard the roar of a big ass WWII plane just above me. Looked up, and it was a freegin B52!!!

I've been sitting out there in my warehouse with the overhead door open just watching all these antigue planes, the Blue Eagles themselves (Blue Jets with the Gold trim), and a lot of other oddball planes up in the air practicing for this weekends show!!!!

They've been doing loop-d-loops, formation fly bys, playing tag it looked like, and just watched an older looking "cropduster" type of plane do one of those smokey "freefall" types of stunts. Coolest thing I've seen all day was when that B52 roared by with 2 dark blue jets tailing it at close range. Imagine what would've happened during WWII if Hitler happened to get the ME 262 built to combat our airplanes!!

I tried to take some pictures, but all I got out here is my little Sony Cyber-shot camera and I just can't zoom in close enough to get a decent picture. Sorry!! I'm going to bring my good camera out here tomorrow, just in case.


Yep, why do I need to go to the airshow this weekend with 250,000 other people??? I've just had a front row seat to the whole show today!!! Guess I'll have to actually "work" tomorrow!:p

When I was running auto parts up there in OK, every once in a while I had something going to Altus. (not often though) Usually it was Wichita Falls, up to Lawton, and then the backroads down to Vernon and onto Seymour, etc.

When I had the Altus runs, I loved to watch those huge military cargo planes practice their "touch and goes" on the Altus runway. A couple of times I would park there on 62 just south of the runway to eat my lunch. It's amazing at how something as large as those cargo planes are can literally fly at 30 MPH (that's what it looked like), drop down onto the runway at a 45 degree angle, touch the tires on the runway making a little "tire smoke", and then shoot back up in the air at another 45 degree angle. You just don't see stuff like that in a "metroplex" area.

Anyways, guess the airshow planes are all parked now. FedEx has a huge hub there at Alliance and the usual FedEx traffic is back in the air for now. FAA probably allowed the planes to practice during the business hours today. FedEx rules the air "area" out here. They've probably got a couple of hundred planes that come and go out of Alliance every night.

I will bring my good camera tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few shots taken.

the Fat alberts which were the c5's that your talking about have now been replaced by the c5a , 1/2 again larger.

It wouls be a little tough to enjoy lunch sometimes at that feed yard on the south side lol. it would get pretty rank. it's empty now.

I miss the good airshows. my parents were stationed at Barksdale AFB. I actually miss the daily sounds of B52,A10's, KC 135 and KC 10'sflying over every 10 minutes. The air shows were the best at that base.

I was at Cabela's on the side of the road with a lot of other people scattered up and down I-35W watching the Blue Angels. I had a closer view than you did. They are going to do it again tomorrow and Sunday. I didn't see all the other stuff you saw. I should go back to Cabela's tomorrow.

Sorry, didn't get a chance to take any cool pictures Friday. Haven't been out of the house since Thursday..........

Massive allergy attack that also triggered a migraine about 4AM Friday Morning. I was in bed from about 11 or so Thursday night til about noon yesterday. Been in a daze ever since. Kind of feel like I'm recovering from a massive 3 day drinking binge, or recovering from taking 2 hits of Black Cat. (not going there again......that was over 25 years ago:) )
