not that this is a good indicator of RV's, but I called everyone in the business this week trying to get a driveaway going west and they all told me the same thing.... DEAD..... Try back next season.

Driveaway has been pretty much dead since summer of '08. It's the toughest market in the RV segment.

I've got Hoosier, Quality, Indiana Transport, and Horizon links in my "favorites". Every couple of days or so I'll click on their sites just to see what rates they're posting, if they're hiring, any new pics put up in the galleries, new discussions on the IT message board, etc. None of those sites have really been "updated" for months now. Quality has only had 1 "hiring" announcement since April, and that was in August for their sister company in Georgia, Baker Transport.
Seems like that it has slowed down again since the upswing in hiring that happened last spring. They probably just hired back enough "diehard" RV Transporters, drivers that left last year due to no trailers to be delivered, to get them through for now. I don't think the market/production level is back in full swing just yet that would support the normal hiring practice of "Pulse + Heartbeat + Truck = Job" that the RV Transporting industry is well known for.
Maybe next spring. Who Knows with this Administration in the White House.....................

Horizon was hiring all summer and Wave was looking for drivers too. Indiana Transport hasn't leased on any trucks but mine since July.
The big shipping backlog that happened early this year was caused by a normal order flow and a lack of drivers as roughly half went under between the summer of 08 and the end of 09.
"Pulse + Heartbeat + Truck = Job" is all I've seen hire on this year. The die hards that went under didn't come back. Seen companies switch to hiring shortbeds with or without fifth wheels..... If it can pull anything your hired basicly. I've met some really interesting FNGs this year.
Most companies quit hiring around July.
I predict a backlog of trailer shipping again by march of next year as the insurance companies start telling carriers they have to lay off driver X in January because his/her CSA 2010score is too low.
Could get interesting as if the bigger companies start actually fighting for top tier drivers instead of bottom feeding but the reality is they will most likely just keep hiring anybody with a truck and a good MVR regardless of experience and just chitcan them when the insurance companies tell them too because they are getting too many citations or tearing stuff up.

I'm leasted to Star Fleet and run out of Twin Falls, ID in the last 60 days I have had two runs out of Jayco into Cananda. I'm now looking for a good used trailer that has the trailer rail so I can move boats as well as cars and other small trailers. Looks like I'm goin to fire up my DOT numbers again.

That was one reason I got out. I see another big slow down coming. I felt it would happen in fall and yep its starting. All of the dealers I delivered to this summer was just packed with new inventory. Now Canada is another story. But even Canada drops off in the fall/winter till around Feb.
Things are going good up here in NoDak. Making great money. Im leaving for home on Monday for a week. He bought another new trailer and a 05 W900L. Im driving that now. We have frac work lined up till Feb. Those are 20 to 30 stages at around 100,000 gallons of water each. So each frac uses 2-3 million gallons. We each haul 5000 gallons, lol So for us we are snowed under, and being snowed under is surely coming soon. The weather is finally starting to cool a bit. Still in the 50-60's days and 20-30's nights. For me thats still about perfect.
Maybe things will be ok for you Jarrett, but I think the single tow guys are in for ugliness this winter.

I'll be fine, Been slower this summer than last summer for sure. Fall and early winter may get ugly. I'm hearing rumors that some manufacturers might be shutting down early December this year and will be closed until early January. A one month vs the typical 2 week shutdown.
I'm going out next week and plan to stay out and run as hard as I can until the Chrismas/New year break... My goal is to bank $10k profit to fatten up the wallet in this period and ride out the storm for the holidays.

Mapletree is advertising for drivers on their website. Mileage pay looks halfway decent for singles.
Who is MT pulling for??

I drive for Mapletree and I have been running quite hard most of the time.
Last week got 2200 loaded miles. Went to Sudbury, ON, St. Jacobs, ON and Yorkton, SK.
Week before was Montreal then Newport News.
Usually get over 1400 miles a week. But then again, I run every week.
Home now for Maintenance. Got to get the Manifold Gasket fixed. Small leak when cold. Clock spring in steering has been clicking for 18 months and going to change it.

We only get our loads from the main office of Mapletree in Elkhart. They have factories in Dallas and in Rialto, CA. We cannot approach them for loads. Only through our office.

Quality is hiring "driveaway" drivers here in the DFW area: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/trp/2045970532.html
Also, I noticed IT changed their website up a bit. They don't have that "HIRING DRIVERS" banner up anymore. Now they're saying "Hiring Drivers in December 2010". They also put up more pics in their photo area.
JARRETT!!! Why are you, I mean your truck, not in the new photoalbum???

I'm about the only one they've hired since July. As far as a pic..... Prolly a couple reasons. 1- my truck isn't the companies colors of black and green.... 2-I'm to busy moving for them to sneak a pic... 3- because the whole world already knows who this famous truck works for.....4- heck, I don't know.
Don't see any of the haul and tow or flat beds in the pics.

OK Brisco, your dream may come true soon. My WORLD FAMOUS truck will be featured soon.
My truck was photographed by Lou today with a couple small Heartland MPG's loaded and I also gave them a couple shots with some Big Heartland North Country's loaded.

Hummm...I'll have to get after hubby & son to have their pics on the photo album...could be Jarrett's same reasons...their trucks are not the company colors & everybody knows the red dodge with the little schnauzer that thinks she owns the place.

Really wasn't meant to be a "Chatroom". Was just supposed to be an area for drivers to post weather and road conditions plus fuel prices, that's all. Some things were being said on that "Note" board that should've been said here on forums like this one. No surprise to me they took it down.
That's why after a couple of months of seeing what was happening there, I decided to post what I posted. (that's what helped you find us here, right??) Coming here in a couple of months when the hiring frenzy starts up again for RV Transporters, I'm going to send out some e-mails with flyers attached to all the RV Transport companies inviting drivers here to learn about and to discuss the RV Transporting industry. I've spoken with, worked for, and am known by most of the "Big Named" Transport companies up there in Indiana. Even ones I haven't driven for. (I'm very inquisitive and have had many phone discussions with the drivers managers and safety directors of most of the companies out there)
Hopefully coming January-February-March, our little area Tony had allowed us to have here on his Auto Board will be the busiest area on this board!! We'll see......................:)
