I would not build him a trailer for his new 2010 f150 ford 1/2 ton. he wants to hot shot 2 cars all under the table. guess someone did. got this pict. this morning.
they told him the trailer weighed 2500 lbs. said he was good for 10,400 on the trailer cause it has 2-5200lb axles under it. brakes on 1 axle.

wonder who did the math ?

I delivered a 28ft 5th wheel trailer to a dealership just south of Chicago one day on a "Hot Run" delivery. (Merriville I believe)

It was a "Hot" delivery because Quality had messed up on delivery date and customer was there waiting on trailer that day.

Trailer weighed in at around 8500 GVWR and was probably a good 6-7000lbs dry as it sat. No problem for my 6.7 Cummins 4dr dually, although I did have a slight cross wind running West down 6 and then 30 from Goshen going there that affected the drive a little.

When I got there, the salesman was waiting outside and had me bring it around back. Told me to pull next to this Chevrolet Reg Cab - SHORTBED sitting out back. I did, and as I got out to unhook trailer I noticed a 5th wheel hitch installed in the back of that REG CAB SHORTBED truck. I looked over at the salesman and asked "that's not the customer waiting on this trailer is it????" He informed it was.............

Well, we went through our quick inspection, he signed off all good, it was a COD shipment, so I went up to the office to wait on the check. As I was up there in the office looking out the window, I saw this little old couple, probably in their 80's and 4 1/2 feet tall step out of the trailer with that same salesman. Little old man got in that Chevrolet and backed up to that trailer to hook up to it.

I drove off that lot shaking my head thinking sheeeezzz...................

He was trying to stay within the Forum rules and not to say that 4 letter word.

WOW is all I can say.

I wish people would use the correct equipment for the job.... Not overloading trailers & trucks. Just makes it unsafe for everone else on the road.

That would put every pickup truck hotshot, car hauler and RV transporter plated for more than their trucks factory GCWR off the road.

Opps, did I say that.:o

Hey having only 1 axle with brakes is stupid and would not cut it with DOT. But I have to agree with you on the weight. If the truck is setup with Ford's upgraded heavy tow pack it could have a 17100 GCWR.

Say the trailer weighs 3k it looks real light weight to me (2500?, seems a stretch, but without scaling it, who knows). 7.5k for 2 cars and 6.5k(?) for the F150 equals 17k, that makes him more legal than most the 3500 dually Hot Shots or Car haulers. Especially all the IFTA rated guys.

He is going to suck the gas loaded with 2.

As for his plans to haul illegal, if that is true, he should be turned in and impounded. Hopefully with a load on and 1000 miles from home. If this is his rig give the picture and his info to the local DOT as a heads up on a illegal hauler. Without a heads up, he could skate under the DOT Radar for some time.

If he plans to bootleg cars he should go to jail and be fined up the ass. If he was caught with a load on this could be a whopper of a fine, especilly if he decided to take some heavier vehicles and was over weight.

yep , they could build a new jail on top of him but it's not my place to bust him. I just don't build for them.
there are plenty other builders that will.
