Nice.
That looks similar to My brothers Kawi 2 stroke triple I painted a couple years ago but his ain't even close to original like the one you are carrying.
My brothers has been built and customized from the frame up, engine is highly modified, has custom built collectors that are kept raw steel and polished with mop and glow to protect them (no kidding) and has carbon fiber race fenders and a Buell fairing
The paint is slightly different from the original Kawasaki lime green candie. Factory paint is a black base then a silver base then lime green candie and clear. His has a black primer sealer base, PPG pure gold base, PPG Indy green candie and covered with 3 coat of clear with a green gold pearl and then 3 more coats of clear. Pics don't show it well but up close it looks like liquid anti freeze. We spent almost a grand just on paint and supplies on this bike.

Looks good. I like it.
I found new trailers a lot easier to move than anything used. Seems to be a lot less hassle dealing with customers, brokers and chasing brokers vehicles and payment all over kingdom come. Paid a hell of a lot better too.

I did modify but in a completely different way. This time I will still be able to go all the way forward and use the flips.
Yesterday was the first time I every unloaded trailers, it took me just under an hour to get all 3 off. I got some good advice about loading (thanks pball) and had a really good loader at the factory which really helped with how the unloading went.

Well this is my 4th load. One of the biggest differences between cars and trailers is something I forgot about. Everyone is friendly, people at the factories, other drivers, and even most of the people at dealers. Hey and guess what else????........everyone speaks english:p
These ended up being a bit taller than I expected, I am right at13'6:eek:.
And before anyone asks, yes I have signs on, I blacked them out on the photo since I used this picture on a much more public forum.

....and don't forget about the total weight you're hauling around too.
I bet these 2 trailers on your trailer makes your truck feel totally different than if you had 3 cars on that trailer. Right??
haulin rv
04-22-2011, 12:09 PM
Those 2 weigh just over 8000 pounds, but the height and the wind actually make the "feel" heavier than three cars. Its like having a big rudder behind you. With those 2 and a full load of fuel I am around 24,000 pounds. With my old trailer and 3 mid size cars I was in the same ball park. But hey I like the $$ per mile much better on the trailers!

Yep, he's a big sail now.
Don't forget to shut down in high wind.
This load since it's a bit heavier feel more "planted", the load of little light ones seemed to get pushed around in the wind a bit more.
I avoid wind as much as possible, heck if they are showing winds in the forecast I just hang at home for an extra day. Not worth the risk and the extra fuel.

Screw the fuel. It ain't worth the risk of being upside down in a ditch.
Some words to live by that the old hand that taught me to drive truck told me about 25 years ago.
There's no such thing as a load so hot that it won't cool off in the ditch!

Haulin did you get hooked up with a trailer factory or are you using a load board for your trailer loads?
h2oskibumz

No load boards for trailers as far as I know. If you want to do trailers your probably going to need to know the right folks at one or more of the factories...

How do you get the trailers loaded and unloaded? Looks like it could be challanging. Do you use a winch and some thing to push down on the back for counter balance?
h2oskibumz
07-09-2011, 07:09 AM
Trailers that are designed to haul other trailers have a center track with ball towers. Some ball towers sit ON a track while others (Take 3 and Kauffman) are held captive. The winch is attached to the ball tower and the trailer ball is attached to the ball on the ball tower. The ball tower is either pinned or held in place with a bolt.
haulin rv
07-09-2011, 07:28 AM
Most of the factories fork them on. Most dealers DON'T fork them off. You unload them via the winch. Not bad as long as the stay straight, if not then it can be a pain.

If a trailer is trying to edge off, put a puddle of liquid dish washing soap under each tire, rock trailer by shoving on tire. It will easily move. If you are a stout guy, watch that you don't push it off! LOL! Also soap lubes ball tower track without making a mess like oil or wd40. Funny as hell the see soap bubbles in a rain shower. I hauled Pace American, Wells Cargo, and Cargo Craft enclosed trailers out of Texas plants for over 10 years.
haulin rv
07-10-2011, 09:39 AM
The soap works great on a diamond plate deck but the expanded metal on a Kaufman makes it a bit tough. I am just very picky about the trailer being centered and usually that helps when unloading. I also have a dolly wheel with a ball welded to it, so that allows some "steering", and the come along also comes in handy.
outlawxpres
07-10-2011, 03:43 PM
I've pissed off a lot of rookie forklift drivers(the real operators are good to go) by being so picky about centering trailers. I've always used Take 3 trailers with diamond plate. A come along should be in every box.
haulin rv
07-10-2011, 04:00 PM
Yep, after a struggle using ratchet straps to slide a trailer over I quickly obtained one. Best $25 you can spend.
I have been pretty luck with fork lift operators so far. Its the ones at the deliver location that have made me more than nervous a couple times.
As far as trailers go, the expanded metal is a real drawback and also how Kaufman slopes there deck in an arch. It makes forking on and off the unit on the tail a challenge at times. Ideally I'd really like to get to a low pro trailer, either Mo or a Take 3. Something like this would be nice...

I would love to have that setup, especially the single axle semi. What weight axles are those???
pmmjarrett
07-10-2011, 04:08 PM
A transport chain and ratchet type chain binder work great for re-centering a trailer or car that wants to come off crooked or doesn't want to winch up straight. Don't need any dish soap on the deck and it is easy to do, no straining, cussing, sweating, pushing, and pulling. Sometimes you have to reposition the binder on the chain once or twice sometimes depending on how far off center you are.
My crippled butt has been able to use this method easily and without help on 6000-7000 lb tandem axle travel trailers that had pooly aligned axles a few times and a few times on 102" wide trailers with boats that shifted over a bit on rough roads.
The wheel with a ball welded on it works well to steer single axle trailers and winch on and off trailers with offset tounge jacks like boat trailers. I had one made up that was also adjustable height with a couple different pin settings and used a stainless convertaball with 1-7/8", 2" and 2-5/16" balls.

All the brands are about the same. Go with the best price and shipping deal. My only suggestion is if you are planning on running that truck for a while I would buy stainless since you live up north and see snow every year.
Exhaust on the cummins is freakin' easy to tear out and install compared to my old Fords since the down pipe is easy to get to and doesn't run up the fire wall behind the block.

If it was a 6.7 I would say go with a 5 as the 5 sounds deeper and not as loud as the 4 imho.
For the 350 price that should come with a downpipe, complete turbo back. All brands are the same pretty much, just pay attention to what steel you get or if your just getting aluminum. The good steel wont rust as fast as the cheap steel. I have the cheap steel on my truck and it has surface rust everywhere, no biggie, its not a show truck.
Why not just keep it the way it is??????
What about cumminsforum??? Always see exhausts for sale for cheap. The 5.9 and 6.7 have the same exhaust.
I wish I bought a 5 inch for my truck. 6.7 comes stock with 4 and I did a turboback 4 inch.
Been thinking about upgrading to a 5inch but I keep telling myself to stop throwing money in my truck. Still want a fass, a intake and boosttube and gh delete.
And my local dyno has its record at 981 tq and im at 801 tq.
Its a work truck, its a work truck... LOL with 400,000 miles. That doesnt smoke, unless I turn on a dirty tune of course!!!!!!!

All Dodge w/ Cummins have had 4" turbo back since the 2004.5 model.
Unless you are replacing a rotted or broken exhaust, it's a waste of money to do a 4" turbo back. Swap to a performance muffler and cut off the CAT and add a section of pipe if you want and you're done for about $150.

Yer doing good loading Haulin. You have a good set up. Get a set of those big heavy duty battery cable quick connectors and mount one under your trucks back bumper so you can plug in the winch battery for really good amperage loading and unloading, your winch will love you for it.

Just need to put a plug on the trailer then coil cord one is done. Tomorrow is exhaust day and maybe few other minor things. Trailer will be here Monday, then who knows what the rest of the week will bring. Starting next week (I think) I should start running 5 loads a week to the same place for 4 weeks. Jumper Cables = Bandaid
Redneck Exhaust = Bandaid
Used Tranny, cheap reman = Bandaid
Your truck and trailer is your proffessional tool you use to feed your family. It is undersized and not built for what you and many others like you do with them but it is getting the job done and has for 1/3rd million miles.
Professional mechanics use Craftsman, MAC, Matco and Snapon tools instead of that Harbor Freight crap for a reason.... Broken and poorly made tools don't get the job done.
Down time costs money, a lot of it. You are money ahead tightening the belt and paying the extra and fixing things right the first time. When you keep using bandaids, but don't never get around to a proper fix, pretty soon you have a really big POS that can cost you dearly.

Be careful about the Speedco's. I had a sample pulled by them 7 days before my Bull Gear and Aux drive went completely out. After looking at the gears and damage I know it had been going on for awhile. I find it hard to believe there wasn't anything alarming in the oil sample after seeing how much junk was in the oil pan & bottom of the front cover. The only reason the truck didn't get serious engine damage was because the crank sensor finally had so much metal stuck on it that the ecm couldn't pick up a signal not allowing the motor to fire up. I will never count on them for a reliable oil sample again. Just food for thought.

Fuel is a little high for only 8000 miles. I got to 2% a couple times
Since the reviews for Speedco are so crappy, I will resample and send to either Black Stone or Oil Analyzers.

Both of those are great labs, but see if your local Cummins dealer has anything. Altorfer Cat has their own, is complete & is $11.

There is nothing wrong with a used tranny. Many times they are better than a rebuilt since some yahoo hasnt been in it. Nothin wrong with MBRP exhaust either.
With a G56 whats the difference between a cheap reman and an expensive one. All of the bearings for the tranny is less than 500 bucks. Other than that there is nothing to that tranny. Synchros are 750 each so not even the expensive one is going to get new synchros. The input shaft is 1200. The expensive one isnt going to get one of those either.
The cheap reman is going to have new bearings same as the expensive one. Id say the only difference is warranty. The expensive one is the same as the cheap one except you are paying too much for a longer warranty than the cheap one has.
There is so much profit in tranny rebuilding its just crazy. Those that want a longer warranty are convinced the tranny is better quality.. Wrong, your paying extra money for a longer warranty. The guy who built it is gonna make the same either way. The extra profit in the high dollar unit pays for the longer warranty.
A redneck set of 20 foot jumper cables is 2 pair of 9.99 walmart specials wired together to make them 20 feet. 8ga. wire, etc. A heavy duty pair of jumper cables will save your but someday and the winch too.
Hell Jarrett you live right in the middle of redneckville. You might wanna be careful, lol

By the way I managed a transmission shop back in my younger days. We had a 5 bay shop and 100 trannies in stock. The owner was a millionaire, all of us employees made 1000 a week and that was back in 1986.. I have a bud that lives in Denver and builds trannys.. Last year he made 175k. Thats in a bad economy. A good tranny builder can make 250k a year. Yes doctor pay. Well thats what he is. He takes a 250 dollar rebuild kit and may throw in 3-400 worth of hard parts and the owner sells it for 2-3, sometimes 4k with labor. Yes we called him our magician. Could take 750 bucks total cost, and turn it into 3000 bucks, lol Hed build 3-5 a day..
People get a warm fuzzy feeling when they pay the most for something. In return you tell em its better because it has a longer warranty. But as far as the tranny goes they are all built the same.
If a tranny went out say 2000 miles away, that shop would repair it for cost plus 30. Yes there is a transmission shop club. Everyone rubs each others backs. EVERY time the extra money the customer paid for the warranty covered the cost of the tranny repair. So who gave a rats ass if the tranny went out or not. They were built to last 100k miles. The ones who bought lifetime warranties paid exactly double over the normal one.
All I can say is people have no clue and a good tranny shop is the most profitable biz in all of auto and truck repair.

How does this one look? Not my truck, yet...
Sorry not letting the "cat" out of the bag yet? This oil was Rotella T, 3500 miles on it, but been in the truck over a year.

Yah, I can tell its new oil without you even saying that by the high tbn count. That fuel looks crazy too though. Usually high fuel means injector or something. im really not that smart with this stuff, just going by previous samples I have done and seeing on cf. Definatly need alot more miles on that oil to see if something is wrong....
Maybe sitting a year gives the 2% fuel dilution?????
ccoop769
07-29-2011, 07:05 PM
LOL, funny thing is my viscosity from my 12 tbn amsoil at 40k miles is same as rotella with 3500 miles!!!!
haulin rv
07-29-2011, 07:07 PM
That is the best you can get from an analysis at Speedco. <2 it as low as there test goes. As far as more miles, well I have to write a big check to "put" more miles on it if I want to see where the numbers go.
h2oskibumz
07-29-2011, 07:09 PM
Coop, your too hung up on the fuel. Besides its LESS than 2%, same as the other sample. There is a quick easy test for fuel in excess of 2% and that's what these quick, cheap Speedco tests run at. Anything less than 2% comes back just that <2%.
The test for finer detail than that is more time consuming (and thus more expensive) and your quickie places don't run it. Even the "good" labs only look for fuel in excess of 1%. If you have an injector issue you will see fuel WELL in excess of 2 or 3% so its really not relevant unless it is beyond about 5%... This simply tells you real quick that there is very little or no fuel in the sample.
ccoop769
07-29-2011, 07:10 PM
Dont understand that on the fuel part, but ok... Amsoil has theres for 23 bucks they give you bottle and return shipping. Explains everything on there site. Really informative. Never tried blackstone but I hear they are top notch too. Theyre reports doesnt look as nice as amsoil though. Even my local lab charges 40 bucks and they just give you a excel sheet. So far, I like amsoils 3rd party labs the best. As the report I shown you........
haulin rv

From this point forward it is my intention to "send" my sample in to Blackstone or Oil Analyzers, but these were to quick and easy tests.

Well got home with a load and unhooked, and headed for lunch with the family. Made it 15 miles and "ding, ding, ding" check engine light. About a mile later lost the front injector bank. Limped it back home. Code P2146 which is front inj bank, no injector codes. Thought cool that should just be the injector harness/valve cover, $100. Well followed a flow chart to make sure and that got disappointing. #3 injector shows 3 ohms, the rest .8 ohms. So my $100 repair just went to $5-600 depending on where I get the injector. Oreilly's actually has one (reman) $553. Or I wait until Monday and call Cummins, if I recall they were in the upper $400's. Now from what I have just read there is a shortage of these injectors (new) so reman may be the only option.
Figure if I get one first thing I should be able to get it all back together and get to Davenport, or get the Oreilly injector (1yr warr) and have it fixed tomorrow. Decisions decisions decisions....

Well so much for trying to keep under the radar and park at home. I hate this F'in town. In the paper today...
In other action, the **** **** Village Council:
• Approved an ordinance on parking commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods.
The ordinance specifies that only vehicles of 12,000 pounds or less, and equipped with D license plates, can park in residential areas. Also, only TD classified trailers or less can be stored within residential areas.
As Bubba would say....
"F*ck this place, its bullshit and I'm out of here!"
