Careful skipping the outbound leg of your trip... the airlines CAN, and occasionally DO cancel the entire itinerary if you miss a leg of the trip.
In a past life I traveled a TON for business. Sometimes it would be less expensive to fly KC>STL>Final destination or right from Columbia>STL>Final destination. If it was COU, I would fly out of here and connect in STL. If it was KC>STL, the airport in KC is about 2 1/2 hours from me, where STL is 1:45 because the airport in KC is so far north and STL is on this side of the city...
Anyway, I used to sometimes drive to STL and skip the KC>STL leg of the flight. 9 times out of 10 it worked out, but a couple of times... I had to explain myself at the ticket counter to get my itinerary "reinstated." Never a problem, but always extra time... sometimes I cut it pretty close and didn't really have the time to argue with them...
Dumb, but true.
