If I had been sitting here at 12:04PM, I would've been!! :)

WTF is that??

Instead of having the bed roll back, they just lift the front of the truck like one would do with a trailer??? How thick are those legs?? 4-5 inches in diameter maybe??

I see major problems with this set-up, know what I mean.

Just looked at the ad......

Deck is too high for a "Haul & Tow" running in the US.

37" Deck Height;

Our decks must be in the 31-33 inch heigth area to keep our loads under 13'6. That's why Mike has built his H&T's to where the trailers axle/tires are sitting behind his axles and not up on top of the axles as they would be on this truck.

Truck was built in Canada as shown on the door plate. Their regs are little different than ours when it comes to H&T's.

I like that 5th wheel attachment on the back though. Mike had something similar to this on his white truck. Wonder if he took the concept to the Red Truck as he was building it??

i think my deck height is about 35" with nothing on it.

Doesn't that 5500 of yours have 19.5 inch tires?? If so, your deck is down in the 31-32 inch heigth area. If your truck has the 22.5 inch tires, as Mikes truck does, then you are running too high when you have a 10-11+ ft high trailer on your truck. I've got the formula written down somewhere in my files (not looking for it tonight) that shows how high the decks are on top of certain tire sizes.

If one was brave enough to lay under it, it would be easy to maintain. lol

Still a cool idea.

it has the 19.5 tires on it, but the tape never lies. I have put 10'6 trailers on there, checked with the ole reliable height checker flag.... besides if i was over I am positive the toll roads and especially the stupid coop on I 57 in Illinois would not let me by....

yar, 5500 frame rail height should be right around 32-34". It varies due to Dodge using various tire sizes depending on rear ratio/axle during the build. The trucks with 4.88 rears/auto trans typically saw a taller 34" height.

Anyway... that Haul-Tow is an interesting idea. However his design looks to use truck-crane stabilizers for what he's doing. If I'm not mistaken, those rams are 1.75-2". Sufficient for stabilizing a truck only. But put some weight on it, I'd be worried.
Figure he's probably blown some seals in the past if it got used. not to mention maintenance on the hydro system. Imagine having a hydro issue while loaded! It would be an interesting offload to say the least!
Plus I don't think the frame of the truck has design specs for being "lifted" from that point. I wonder what the stress loads are in that position when lifted & loaded. :D

hehe... had to add this... repo guy's wrecker lift... chained down the front thinking it would help lift a heavy vehicle... morons.

I don't think those rams are 4+ inches. I think Tony is right. I would never have thought of such an idiotic idea as that. Why not do it right and install the hydraulic bed like other trucks have. The bed height to me doesn't look any different than others that I have seen.

you'd have to have a hell of a rear brake system on that thing to keep those hydraulics from bending as your winching something on the bed, the back and forth movement would warp those things in no time.

I seen this exact same truck today or it's twin brother heading west on I10 today around Chipley, Fl. They had a deck over bumper pull trailer behind it with what looked like 2 10k axles hauling one car on the truck and 2 cars on the trailer.
