View Full Version : is there any maps with bridge height clearances?
I was looking into wally mo trailers and if there is like 5 ford f150, it is like 14 ft. high. Is there any mapping software that gives us bridge clearance heights?
thank you
Not really. The only thing that you could consider would be that MOST interstate/freeway overpasses should be at least 13'6" clear due to federal, etc.
however, that doesn't necessarily mean that the whole span is that clearance. On the east coast, PA for one has quite a few arch support overpasses with less than 13' clearance near the shoulders.
I really wouldn't consider going about 13'6" without some major route investigations. I know that some truckers atlases have interstate clearance notes in the front or back of the book near the weight limits.
I would consider carrying a small compressor and deflating the vehicle tires to get as close to 13'6" as I could. ;)

I have found myself a couple times ending up on a route with less than 13'6. In Chicago its common and also a couple other places in N Illinois. Luckily I only had cars on so with a quick check I could continue on. I use Microsoft Street and Trips and it sure would be nice if that had some type of reference in it.

Trucker GPS helps a little. But would not totally depend on it

iExitTrucks app on my iphone shows low over passes on it. It doesnt show you the height I dont think though. It shows you truck stops and Walmarts and Kmarts also.

im new at this so don't laugh at my ideas too hard...
what if you lower the air in the tires, on the 5 ford f150
or if you can get some old cheep rims (steelies) and get some old used low-pros (if they hold air it's good enough) then just use them on the 5 ford f150. just to transport them.
Yeah, you can drop the air pressure & if the trailer has chains instead of wheel straps you can drop them some more. Wally Mo trailers always looked tall to me, Cottrell has the same arch going on, but you see one ton full size vans on them all the time.

Some state. like PA, offer maps with low clearances marked. PA's example is free for the taking at all of the welcome centers. Also, in the Rand-McNally it has major low clearances listed, as well as phone numbers that one might find helpful in contacting state road offices to find out about any restrictions ;)
