Anyone ever rented a semi before? Just curious about prices. Wanted to know if they charge by the mile or a flat rate or both. I called this afternoon but they had already closed. I'll give them a call tomorow.

They typically charge a flat per month. some locations also add a per mile with a lower flat rate. the big issue with those are the deposit they are going to want. A one-truck operation like ours seems to be high risk for them. But it depends on the company I guess...

I have an accounts with Penske and Ryder, and they are basically what you would call 'simple accounts'. Meaning... I slap my numbers on the side, go, and pay their rates.
But at the time my numbers were still active(after the accident), there was no way I could drive. By the time I could drive, I suspended my authority. So it would be a whole new venture for me right now, and not the best idea starting back up by renting a truck.

Another driver that had mechanical issues, they wanted a $10k cash deposit. But for me, it might have been my company status, etc. Maybe it was my corporation and that I had focused on quickly building company credit for that type of situation. On paper, the company looked great... but in reality, it was the same as everyone else... always fighting for that next buck.

Anyway... it could go either way. My suggestion for you would be to contact their national offices. Don't go into details, but just ask for the nearest commercial truck leasing location. Talk to the location directly in regards to what you need. You could probably contact one of the truck sales lots directly and talk to them just the same.

I was quoted $250 a day with a $2500 deposit a while back. I think my answer was um, no. Rented a truck from a local guy that I new for$ 300 a week, no deposit. It had a Cat 550 with a 13 speed, lots of power and lot of fuel.

LOL! $250 a day? Better be on some mega money runs with that price. If you could afford that price you would just go out and buy a new one and not think twice about it. Last winter I meet a guy driving a penske truck up in Michigan hauling a wedge. He was an employee. Wonder how long they had that for and if they are still in business. I see them all the time. I new they wouldn't be cheap but $250 a day is unattainable. You wouldn't of been able to let that thing stop rolling with them prices.

From the trans or the wreck?

From what The adjuster told me he can access the damages to the truck and cars but I need to get a qoute for the trailer. So I guess as of right now they are waiting on me. I had to get a couple of things fixed to make it safe to drive so I could get these peoples cars off to them and then go home to get it fixed. I'd rather be at home than be staying at my buddies house.

My wife called Penske this morning. They told her $155 a day plus $.14 a mile. So roughly $1,500 a week. If that's my only option I'll sit at home. They'll probally want a deposit from me too I bet. My wife found a Internet special for Ryder but they are closed today

I dont think thats bad on a short-term lease its just like renting equipment the longer you rent it the cheaper its going to be it sucks that you just spent all that cash on a tranny or you would have the money to buy a cheap truck and go back to work

I was wanting to buy another truck but with recent set backs now ain't the time. I was wanting someting with 300,000 or less miles on it but was thinking next spring or later. $1,500(truck)+roughly $1,500(fuel)+ what ever else I'll be about breaking even with a 3 car trailer. I can easily make between $5,000 to $6,000 a week with the 4 car but with a 3 car it's possible with some luck but I'm not as confident. Say you make $4,000 a week you haven't made any money. I don't have any loyal customers so it's not like it benifits me to break even to keep them happy. Before I did any research I was thinking between $750 to $1,000 a week. But obviously I was way off!

None of this was your fault, but you get stuck with the out of businesss bill. I hope you can find a way out. You need to push this other guys insurance company, your just a small guy though, they have out gunned to start with.

This past week I think my wife said 5 lawyers from NC have already sent us letters/flyers with the police report to our house already. I'm not a sue happy person nor have I ever sued anyone before but I think this is good grounds to do so. I'll get my truck and trailer fixed through my insurance but I don't think I'll ever see a dime for a rental truck or for lost wages unless I get a lawyer. I know a lawyer will take a big chunk but something is better than nothing. I'm thinking once I get my truck to a shop it'll take 2 weeks to get it fixed. Yea I'm sure it could get fixed faster but slow people is what I seem to find. Hell it took 2 days to weld a spot on my trailer and replace the oil cap for the hub after it was all said and done. Usually it seems I drop my truck off and 2 or 3 days later they look at it, order the parts, 2 or 3 days pass and they fix it. This seems to be every where I go. Maybe I'll get lucky this time. But all and all it'll work out in the end. Just a big set back and a headache to deal with. Had some people mad with me about thier cars but they've seemed to calm down though.

Don't feel guilty about suing, you have been damaged. This is what the other guys insurance is for. To make it right. I would do like Tony Suggested, figure out what it will cost to make you right and give them the bill. Add a figure per day for them dragging their feet and keeping you from getting the ball rolling. You are not some guy that just got hit with property damage. You are a business and you are now out of business. There is a cost to that and each day that goes by it goes up.

These are the kind of things that kill us small business guys

I dont know. Maybe if I hired a driver they would rent to us? They told my wife to call Crest Truck rental and gave her the number to Bowflex.LOL The price there is the same as penske pretty much. $159 a day and $.14 a mile.

Try a small truck dealership. Tell them the situation & let them know you'll be in the market for a truck soon. I did this once with a pickup. Dealer made money & used the truck for a week & although I didn't buy from him right then, I bought a truck from him a couple years later. This was for personal use however but may work in your situation.
