Anyone know anything about Mack engines? I've never heard anything about them. Mostly curious about the newer engines(2000 to present)

How is the E7 for otr use? I see a lot of heavy haul and rock trucks that are Mack in my area. I've heard that you have to put a treatment in the coolant to prevent cavitation, idk. Are they hard to find someone to work on out on the road? I like the look of the Vision. Thanks

All engines have problems but etec e7 has liner to block cavitation if coolant not tooken care of and the camshafts are always failing if orginal cam has been replace with updated cam you will have no problems unless you overspeed the engine all in all if you take care of your engine it will last a long time ups is a big customer and most of there trucks have over a million miles before overhauls overhauled 25 trucks for a local company last year all were 2002 ch with 350hp and with updated programs are avg. 7.6 mph .

Would like to find a Mack vision with single drive axle to pull my wedge with. Saw one coming out of Atlanta a while back pulling a 4 car looked like a good setup.

There's some single axle macks on truck paper with low miles with what I think are reasonable prices for what you are getting and I'm sure you can hagle the prices down.

I read a little about them on another forum. All I found were about the ch models as far as recent models go. Several people talked about electrical issues. The truck skipping and the truck actually turning off going down the highway. Some said Mack coudnt figure it out and they just lived with it. One guy said his truck has had problems like that since new. Seems like people love em or hate them.
My grandfather had a late 70 something cab over Mack when I was a kid and he said it got good fuel milage. He bought it from a mobile home company as a S/A truck and converted it to a twin screw.
I also read that Mack dyno's there trucks at the rear axle since they build the whole truck as compared to a cat or cummins as that is the power the engine makes. So basically a Mack engine with 350 hp and a cat with 350 hp the Mack actually has more power. This is what I read. I don't really know. Please tell.
I like how the Macks look new or old, but read about alot of emission/electrical problems 03-07 elsewhere. Didn't research them too much more after that. Maybe that was the E7 Dogdoc was talking about?
Always wondered why Mack was so strong with vocational trucks, but you only see a few OTR.

Also I was while I was trying to look up some info on them found some people talking about the new urea emissions stuff. They said Australia has been running trucks with urea with no problems since 08. No egr or dpf. That roughly 2 gallons of urea will be enough for 100 gallons of fuel.

Rated hp on valve cover is the flywheel hp the hp at the wheels is 70-80% of rated hp so you would have 280. If i was to buy a Mack it would be before egr 2002 older in 2007-now the engine is basicly a volvo engine with a Mack valve cover the emisions system on the right side of engine is worth $30,000 but the exhast coming out the stack is cleaner then the air going in the aircleaner crazy... All manufactures have electrical problems Ive have never had a issue I could not fix with time or money. Most customers get mad becuse shops cannot fix the truck in a days time but if its a prolem that happens once on a 800 mile trip and the problem does not exist while the tech is there its hard to fix. Imagin a altinator field core winding just 1 wire touching the case from time to time will short out the entire truck same goes for a starter motor. Recently we got seval flood victims truck under water for 4 days we drained all water from engine trans rears and replaced modules and trucks are out there running making money .

The emisions on the 2003-2007 work good when they work. If one componet in the system goes bad it messes everything else up, say you get a boost leak now your engine is richer making more soot. Now this will cause the egr to clog up faster it turn the egr cooler is not doing it job of cooling the egr the engine runs hotter fan works harder and fuel milage suffers and when the boost leak gets fixed finaly we have created other issues Some electcal issues are that the low coolant senser fails and coolant leaks inside the wiring to the engine ecu and when the pin connections rusts in the module truck comes in on a hook. Any wire connection that get abuse vibration wind from fan etc can be a potental problem on any vehical.
