does anyone have any input on the chevy diesel years 96-99 before the duramax? can they handle the weight of a 3/4 car? and do they last? all i see are f350s and dodge 3500s pulling wedges. i ask because i have access to a 99 with just over 100k on it, but i dont want to waste my time and possibly money from being broke down if the truck cant handle it

thanks

6.5 Turbo diesels were junk. GM rated the trucks with a towing capacity of 8000 pounds.

Check with an insurance company if you are just starting out if they will insure a vehicle of that year for commercial use. Know some used to have a seven year clause when I first started shopping for insurance.

As for the pre Duramax G.M. era, those motors were fine around the farm, but would not put one into commercial use.

General Motors own sales numbers for the 98-99 model year of 2500 - 3500 series trucks reflected that out of every 100 trucks sold, Ford had an avg. of 66 - Dodge had 32 - with G.M. getting the other 2. Their numbers from their media release back in the day talking about the upcoming improved truck & Duramax/Allison combination.
