Well my story is somewhat simple.

I started on the other side of the business. I worked for dealers pretty much my entire grown up (not sure if I really have yet) life. I started around 20 years old in sales at a motorcycle dealer and worked my way up to sales and finance mgr. The dealership ended up getting sold the same month I bought my house back in 1994 so I got a little vacation and a new house (to me) at the same time.

For the next 8 years I bounced around dealerships doing everything from service mgr to general mgr. One of my stops was at an RV dealer and that is where my idea of getting on the road got started. My last stop was at a auto dealer and after a year I was totally burnt out and left. I went on vacation and came back on bought a dually and hooked up with a transport company.

The RV years. Well I started with a old (1992) Dodge dually and quickly learned it was not going to hold up so after a few months and 30 or 40 thousand miles I upgraded to a 24 valve quad cab dually that my kids nicknamed the "candy cane truck" since it did look like one being red and white. All was well until one day in Orlando and I developed injection pump issues and at almost the same time transmission issues. With no cash to repair it I quit rv hauling and put the truck on ebay. Anger and frustration was running wild and I was going to just get a JOB. Well I quickly realized I had become addicted to the road and no boss. So I searched and found a CHEAP Ford with a sleeper and hit the road again and was doing well (I thought) so that is when the stupid mistakes began I bought another newer truck, then a new truck, then another, then my current mega. Now I am in DEBT.

The end of RV hauling. About 2 months after I bought the Mega I crashed on a quad and shattered my collar bone so that sidelined me for the end of the season (3 months) then it was winter and then came 2008, well the spring was slow, beginning of summer that same and then came July 4th and the industry crash began. By time I de-leased there were waiting lists for trailers 3 weeks long, can't eat or live on that.

The new beginning. Well a while back when I traded trucks and I had removed a set of custom wheels and advertised them for sale. That's how I met H2oskibumz and we had stayed in contact after that. Then late in 2008 we got to talking, I bought a wedge and the rest is history. I have learned a lot over that last year and have enjoyed the change. I just wish I did it sooner.

Now the the new hurdle to overcome is the need or want to get out of a one ton and into something bigger to safely haul more cars and get some comfort of a truck with a sleeper. At least that is a goal I know I am setting for myself in 2010.

Check out truckpaper's website. Look for expediter/hotshot trucks under heavy & medium duty. When I bought mine made trade with dealer box for shortening frame & mounting used full size 5'th whl. If they don't want to mess with it there are any # of places that will do the job from reasonable on up. There is alarge assortment on the market priced cheap as a 5500 by the time you'd get it all dressed up. Look for one with APU as should have far less idle time on motor not to mention all the creature comforts you can run. Not to knock the pickup guys, because we all have our own things going & know our own needs, but better pulling/stopping power, no more resaurants, large bed, storage & moving around room made a whole lot more sense to me than any of the arguments for smaller trucks. If you are going to spend much time out it makes life mucho better.
