Hello guys,
Fill your coffee cups, I sometimes post in Novella format...
I've been working with Haulin' RV for exactly a year (or has he been workin' w/ us, I'm not sure which anymore) and been a lurker at Gary's for a little over 2 years before that... I've only posted a few times over there, but (because its not REALLY geared towards cars) I've been pretty quiet as far as posting goes.
Tony's background story in IT could pass for my own story... 10 years in IT. The last 8.5 of it with one company, and the last 3 of which was managing people doing what I myself LIKED to do and was GOOD at doing. Hated every day being a babysitter, couldn't get my boss to "get it" and so...
Faced with the choice of:
a) Having a heart attack
b) Having a nervous breakdown
c) Finding another career
I researched it for more than a year, bought a truck and trailer while I still had a job (and credit!!!) found what I thought was a niche and...
Quit my job the first week of June '07 and started hauling cars (IntRAstate) in July of '07 (impeccably bad timing, right?) We nearly starved the first year, and I nearly quit to go to work with Haulin' RV at hauling... well, RV's (boy would THAT have been bad timing!)
We have managed to survive this long by building a good local clientele and filling the holes off Central. Things started taking off a bit in March of '08 when my wife got laid off from her job and became my "Salesman" and then even more so in the summer of '08 when we applied for our IntERstate authority.
Haulin' and I had been friends for about a year when he joined us a year ago, both as a friend and a kind of a partner, giving us access to a 2nd truck and trailer and we haven't looked back...
Both before I started our current endeavor and since, I've relied heavily on posts by you guys at Gary's and would like to offer a LONG OVERDUE...
