Anybody using 22.5 trailer tires? What brands work & what is a waste of money? My size is 255/70R22.5

Have been quoted on(installed price)
Bridgestone R250ED (https://www.bfentirenet.com/product_catalogs/trucktires/app?task=TruckTiresPC&subtask=ttDetail&ctry=USA&language=en_us&modelID=678&partial=true)@ almost $500 each
Firestone 560 (https://www.bfentirenet.com/product_catalogs/trucktires/app?task=TruckTiresPC&subtask=ttDetail&ctry=USA&language=en_us&modelID=139&partial=true) @ $340
Cooper Roadmaster (http://www.coopertire.com/html/products/tires_commercial.aspx?page=roadmaster_rm185) @ $250<~They said "ehhh it's better than a cap"
Sumitomo ST727 (http://www.sumitomotire.com/commercial/products/st/st727.aspx)@ $230

Michelin doesn't show a listing in this size & haven't checked Goodyear. Not wanting caps soooo, any guidance appreciated.

I've always used BFG ST 230"s & had excelent wear on my 53' step 10' spread. Use them on truck, all 6. Put 2 on steer a month ago & put old steers on drive for $719.24 @ Bauer Built Tire in Lincoln Ne. Don't pay sales tax so would be + 6.5%. 402-466-7800.

Thanks Sheamus, did a search around here for BF Goodrich & the only place listed online with them from the BF's site is Love's Truck Stop.

They quoted installed disposal etc.

Michelin XZE @ $476
BF Goodrich ST230 @ $420
Double Coin RT500 @ $340

Obviously they are a bit high & kind of expected that. The Michelins are a couple dollars cheaper than the Bridgestones quoted yesterday & the BF's are looking like $60 more than your guys in NE. The Double Coins are Chinese through a U.S. warehouse & never had much luck with that sort of tire.

There are some BF dealers down by St. Louis 'bout 90 miles that I will check with in a bit. Thanks again.

One of the dealers listed on BFG's web site was Cross Midwest Tire (http://www.crossmidwest.com/services/services.html). They are located within a mile of the auction in Bridgeton, MO on St. Charles Rock Road. Called them up & asked about the ST 230's ... Uhhh we don't stock those.(long story)

Anyway, a guy named John did quote some Firestone 560 +'s for $253 + $18.99 FET. I only need to replace the spare, but want to start replacing them to have all the tires match if possible.

So if you guys are ever in that area, it sounds like there may be an option of someone selling something decent at a fair price vs. the truck stop rape. I didn't ask if they stocked 16"/17.5" or 19.5's, but can call to ask at 1 314 739 6511.

Still looking around checking things about tires. There is place called Brahlers Truck Supply in Jacksonville, IL (http://www.brahlers.com/) that are pushing either General or Yokohama. Didn't ask about the Generals, but a RY023 was around $265.

However, I did find a place in Salem, IL that sells the BFG ST230 for $317 plus sales tax. FET was already included in the $317. Their number & address is Salem Tire Center, Inc. 1100 East Main Salem, IL 62881 (618) 548-6645 (http://www.salemtirecenter.com/Home_Page.html)

You guys may not need truckdown.com by the time I get done looking around. ;)

Yeah, think I have irritated most tire shops in the state by now. ;)

They have the BFG ST230's for $279 w/FET plus $24 mount & install. Am going to spend another $25 to exchange my current rim for a refurbed wheel that has been bead blasted/powder coated.

Found this the other night too... http://www.americamovesbytruck.com/index.php
Scroll down & click on rolling resistance...you can choose by brand or look at all of them. Not sure if it will make much of a difference on a car trailer, but interesting.

There is kind of a mixed bag of tires under this trailer. But a majority are the ST230's & so far so good. When researching this, there was a thread of some guys using them on spread axle set ups like yours & all seemed pretty happy with them vs. paying over $400 for some other brands.

Out of curiosity, where does it say the tire was made at? (should be stamped on the side) Was told Cooper sent their molds out to China some years ago after they established their name here.

Know there is a mfg. facility in So. IL (Mt Vernon area) that makes several brands including Yokohama.

Am sure the branded company tells their mfg. the specs they want their tires to be made at, so that could be a big difference too.

Again just curious.

Cool, & the full story is that a tire guy was trying to push Double Coin tires for my trailer. Told him my local shop sold Cooper & that I did not want to buy Chinese double coins... That is when he told me Cooper sent their molds for commercial tires to China. Never looked into it after that though.

Yap "made in china" nice and big on the side

Yeah, sad to hear that Cooper did that!

I keep trying to buy stuff MADE IN THE U.S.A. but it is almost impossible. Even if it is manufactured here, the corporate owners are based in another country.

Had to buy a angle grinder, went to 7 stores & all were made in China(name brand or not) aside from one Bosch that was made in Germany.

Didn't mean to go off topic of tires, just get irritated that we are a service country or provide tech support, while the money that employs people goes elsewhere.

I've somewhat gave up on that and really just try to support the independent/local guy. Like you said above so many items are next to impossible to be found made in usa.

It always made me laugh when people said by an american truck like a Dodge. Lets see made in Mexico, owned by (at the time) Diamler. At least a Toyota is actually built here!

Same tire 16 months later is $345 vs. $279 4/10. They said Goodyear was expecting another 8% increase along with all the others in the coming weeks.
