This will probably end up a mangled mess, but what do you guys know about various trailers you have run in the past or have friends running. I know there is a Take 3 & Haul A Round section above so those two brands should be covered on details.
But, there are now plenty of people here with info running all sorts of set ups from wedges to 7 car Millers & maybe stinger steered stuff. Anybody have good/bad reviews about most anything post it up here. Every trailer has its strong points & issues from most any brand.
For instance, that Mclendon 53' wedge trailer I had was rock solid as far as the mfg's weld & construction. The weak point was their distributor sold them a cheap grade of 7k Dexter axles(or the mfg requested the cheap stuff, either way.) When I had an issue & went through Dexter direct, they told me that the serial number on the axle designated a .25 wall thickness & they were going to replace them with .32. Cured the camber issue I was having & the axles were still rated for 7k.
Wally Mo five cars set ups are short enough to fit virtually anywhere & still get five of most anything on them. However the runners rust from the inside out, which is fixable. But the biggest issue I found with those were the 16" wheels on spring suspension. Guys running those have problems with cracking rims & annihilating G rated 14 ply tires. Also issues with breaking chains that tie down the cars because the springs are a bit rough. Could add air bags, but need to know that expense before buying the trailer.
Sun Country trailers are built to indestructable standards, big box framing, but adds a lot of weight(not an issue for class 4 & up truck). Their paint leaves some to be desired in terms of longevity because they don't blast the metal before they prime. Also on the wedge side, unless you specifically ask for heavier wheels, they will only handle 10 ply tread at 80 psi. If you want to upgrade after owning the trailer for a bit, you have to spring for wheels & tires. Though if you know this going in & buying new, Brian will accomadate anything he can.
Just info. like that because I think there is alot a great stuff new & used out there, but we all need to know what we are getting into with any of it.
