Figures, now they beef 'em up...

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2010/02/2011-chevy-silverado-heavy-duty-gets-more-powerful-and-efficient-duarmax-6-6-and-allison-tranny.html

"We expect to see power ratings near or over 400 hp (from the mid-300s), while torque numbers that are typically in the mid- to high-600 lbs-ft range may rise north of 700."

"At the back axle, wider leaf springs with asymmetrical mounting reduce hop and again, carrying capacity goes up—for dual-wheel models, all the way to 9,375 lbs"

"Underneath the familiar Silverado sheetmetal, though, is an all-new truck, starting with a new frame. Make that 11 all-new frames to accommodate variations of cab and cargo box length, 4x4 and rwd drivetrains. The frame is now fully boxed end-to-end and boasts uprated crossmembers to achieve a 92 percent improvement in bending stiffness, a 20 percent gain in torsional rigidity. A new independent front suspension attaches to the hydroformed front segment and this forward portion of the structure is 125 percent stiffer, which let the engineers improve the ride quality and steering feel. Plus, all 4x4 permutations of the HD trucks are now capable of carrying the load of a snow plow thanks to an uprated front axle rating of 6000 lbs."

"and there's an engine braking system that works in conjunction with the new Allison 1000 six-speed transmission to improve performance on steep grades. This latter is a far more sophisticated, electronically managed version of the engine-braking used by 18-wheelers—rather than a manually operated "jake brake" that alters the valve operation to increase engine braking."

Will be released at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show...

"The all-new 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty models might not look all that new and there’s a good reason for it. With tight budgets at GM as of late, the Silverado HD team was given limited funds to build the truck and so they chose to put the money where those who really need a heavy duty truck will appreciate it most. Aesthetically, the only real changes to the 2011 model are a new chrome bumper, a “power-dome” hood and a revised grille. Changes to the rest of the truck, however, are significant."

Hmmm, I wonder just how many cars it takes to net $50k rainy day money? ;)

About 1,000,000 cars... or at least it SEEMS like I'm making about $0.05 a car lately! 1 million cars at a nickle apiecs... seems about right.

I would put a LOL but its really no laughing matter... Tires, Hydraulic motors, brakes, idler pullys, wheel bearings... WHAT A WINTER! Makes it tough to turn a profit right now.

Dodge/Ford/GMC Heavy Duty truck test...

http://www.insideline.com/gmc/sierra-3500hd/2011/2011-heavy-duty-truck-comparison-test.html

Still cannot believe what was impressive ten years ago to the levels they have taken these trucks currently. Can only imagine what we would have with 2001 emission laws as well.

Rather own a new dodge.............

50k??? I paid 50k for my truck, well 35k for truck and 15k in interest at 9.9 in 5 years at $800 per month.

would I do it all over again, yep......................

For turning profits, maybe you should try a different shipping lane..... I always said the south east sucks with rates, I thought the economy was doing better and rates are going up. Ive already noticed less miles and more gross while doing less picks and drops. Seems like alot lately we have been getting alot of 1 pick 1 drops or 2/2.

well dont want to get off topic, chevys are nice, maybe I would own 1 as a DD as it doesnt take much to make 1000 hp out of it, but then again, all big 3 are crazy these days pushing stock 800 tq. Really wouldnt mind checking out the new dodge. Comes with a new aux trans cooler, beffier TC, 800 tq. These little trucks are getting into semi territory with power, while maintaining a healthy 10 mpg pulling 25k pounds. Breakdowns are relativly cheap..

This test is unfair, as they used 2010 dodge as the 2011 has been upgraded as above comment making dodge 1st place. This test and most test used are most likely paid by manufactures to let them win or hoax it somehow.

Personally have never had good luck with a Dodge, but know some of you guys here obviously have.
My Grand Dad always had Chevy Scottsdales & Cheyennes way back in the day & kind of stuck from there.

But the point of posting the link is that all three trucks are pretty damn cool in terms of what they can do. Like I said, years ago 220-250 was a decent benchmark & remember thinking when they all hit 300 hp, that would be the line for many years from a factory. Then again at $60k it may as well be for me.

Now if we could throw the EPA backward ten years, allow the refineries to at least make the previous grade of diesel, get rid of the EPA fee's in purchasing/processing diesel & life would be good.

Personal use!!!! If I said commercial, it would of been a big DENY!!!! Would of liked a 4500, but there werent out at time. plus stories im hearing on the 4500 on repairs and mpg, im happy with my lil ole 3500 and would buy another. Very cheap operating cost wether you do work yourself or pay somebody. Only time I ever had a bill higher then $1000 was for when the tranny broke.. I think.......... I rarely throw money in my truck, well lately I have but its all chump change compared to the stories on here.......

plus, i had no credit or cash available at time, so a commercial truck was a nogo either way. (4500 or semi)

Dude, my post about 'profit' and '$0.05' rates was OVER a year ago and mostly sarcasm. Rates sucked, but not THAT bad!!!
