Wow, that is one helluva first question!

I can't really tell you what to do next without asking you a bunch of questions first.

What are you trying to accomplish? Whats your goal?
I mean seriously, you need to have some idea of what you are thinking. And that would be a great start here. If you are starting to consider purchasing your first trailer and 'getting rolling', then we should talk first.

Are you looking at becoming and owner-operator and starting to move cars for a living? First you should really look into your past and decide if you feel comfortable handling cars considering the risk to a customers car. There is a lot that could affect your decision at that point. Not all cars that you haul would be low-budget auction cars that a dealer wants to fill his $5k or under lot. Consider that risk.

What is your background and what do you want to do.

Also, hows your financial situation? You have the truck and that is a great start. However there is going to be a HUGE amount of cash(and credit) being used just to get started BEFORE you can even think about booking that first trip. Not only do you need more equipment, but you will still need to feed yourself and also your truck once you start. And it will take a VERY long time before you would be able to build enough reserves to keep rolling after your first few loads.

Give me a little more information on your situation and what you are considering and I'll try to steer you in the right direction.

Alright, here's the deal.

I'm going to be an autoexpeditor, someday, but not exclusively.
I don't thinks it's a good idea to limit yourself to one type of cargo.
Hence the trailer thread. Wedges are cheaper, but flatbeds are more versatile.
At this point, I have neither. Just a 3500 with hitches.

I've been driving commercially off and on since '84.
Never been an O/Op. Have ALOT of questions.

Figured I'd start out pulling RV's till I bought or leased a trailer.

I dunno.

Here's some things I found that I may or may not need, to do what I want to do :

MC-ICC#

US DOT#

BOC-3

IFTA

OP

IRP

UCR

State Authority

Broker Authority

2290 Forms / FED ID#

PUC #

Base Plates

Title Work

Trip and Fuel Permits

Fuel Tax Reporting

I just need to get under a load soon and start making some money.

Yep, you'll need it all basically except for the 2290,etc since you'd still be under 55k. To be legal to haul anything for hire you'd need most of that list.
Including filing your OP-1,MCS-150,BOC-3, but you missed the insurance part.
I would suggest contacting Gary or Danny for their guide that they have prepared.
It will list the items and a near chronological order of what comes first.
A Trailer will be one of the last items on the list, but you can have one selected and the finances figured out ahead of time.

If you are looking at hauling rv's to start with, buisness is good right now. Most all of the rv transporters are hiring. Give me a call and I can give you some info on the company I work for. 219-242-4136 Greg
