I need a decent 3/4 ton truck. Must be 4x4 and diesel. (as i get more desperate, ill switch to a gas motor - but ive still got some time) Open to options. Im going to spend less than 10k. Plowing business has picked up and need to add a truck, but reality is that its not gonna earn me squat the rest of the year, so I dont need a beauty queen. Just something reliable. Send me info if you have one, or see one.

Right now im looking at a few 99-2003 Ford F250's in my price range. I kind of like them for plow trucks. Prefer short bed, but can work with a long bed. Ive actually found some nice 07's and 08's for the same price, but we all know what motor is in them.....

If we still had our 03 F250 FX4 I would have sold it to you.. But we traded it for the Dodge and now I drive a damn minivan :)

HaulinRV....Your exactly right, I dont think Ill ever sell this 250, I've looked at new trucks, just cant bring myself to make a payment that big on something that wont make me more money than what I've already got.

Angelo, a Buddy HAD a ECSB 1999 F-250 4x4 gas sold it for $2500...needed a front seat and tires...Sold it today

Ok, before everyone on this forum beats me with a stick..... im going to look at a 2005 f350 single rear wheel truck tomorrow for my plowing gig. Extended cab, long bed, base interior, 4x4. It has 165k on the famous 6.0 motor. Its a decent looking truck. Has a few small dents, scuffs, but overall clean. I know these things are ticking time bombs. My neighbor has 3 of them (different years, but all 6.0) and he is always fixing something. Its what I would consider a good price ($7500-8000). After everything ive read, i know to run away from these - but im actually considering buying one to keep as a local plow truck. If it breaks, it'll give me a good learning experience as i plan on fixing it myself. Am I getting in over my head??? I know this is just crazy talk, isnt it?

No your not getting is over your head. My 2007 F-350 6.oh was a great truck. I ran a SCT with custom tunes on it from Matt at Gearhead (ran his 8K tow tune 95% of the time). Flushed the coolant system, filled with Fleetrite ELC non-silicate coolant/distilled water and installed a coolant bypass filter. I had a edge insight (bought used for $100) to monitor egt's, boost, coolant temp and engine oil temp. The only problem I had was when a CAC boot clamp broke and blew off while I was crossing over the Smokey Mountains on I-40 west bound.

If I could have found a 2005-2007 low mileage DRW with standard transmission for less than I paid for my Dodge, I would be driving another 6.OH. That's not a bad price for that truck. Go have the VIN# ran at your local Ford dealer and see what all was fixed under warranty. If it's in decent condition and has been maintained it should serve you well as a local plow truck.

Get the vin and have a local Ford dealer run it too see the service history on it. Imo, i wouldn't touch a 6.0L at all.... But its ur $$$$$ I would get a dodge imo.

get the service history for sure from the Ford dealer. try to find out what dealer the truck has been to, they may know the truck if it is a problem truck or not. I think the 6.0 for around town and plowing you will be fine. I know alot of people with them that have no real issues. The only ones the have the major headaches are usually towing campers or wedges.

I went and saw the truck I was eyeballing on the Internet today. Took an hour and a half to drive there, spent 10 minutes there and drove an hour and a half home. I think I spent 9 minutes too long there. The blowby was so bad, that they duck taped the oil dipstick down to hold it in!!!! Coolant bottle was bone dry, truck smoked like a whore house. POS !!!

That's 3 hrs 10 min of your life you won't get back lol. That sucks.

I will say the the 7.3L is the way to go. I had a 2000 F350 extended cab srw 4x4 and with the cruise set to 65 I got 24mpg... The truck was bone stock!

Update; bought a crazy clean F250 today. Loaded up, leather, 4X4, brand new tires, not a spec of rust anywhere. Has the 7.3 in it. I lucked out!

Now I gotta go get it!!! It's just outside of Vegas, and I'm going there week after next for a few days, but I really need it sooner. Gotta install the plow and get it ready for another one of those Chicago winters!! Let's see how I pull this one off.???
