Any shops in Detoit?? Tosch??? Driver will actually be in flint but can go anywhere, if he makes it, still in PA. 5th gear shot, slipping a little bit, temp 190F. Just changed fluid 10,000 miles ago and already brown. Tried Battery reset and fixed it for a minute. Now he just limping to detroit hopefully by tonight. Wanna scan the tranny too to find out whatz wrong before I spend spend spend. Thinking just a Suncoast Tranny Mega Rebuild kit, the $850 version. Hopeing TC is still good. Since truck will be in Detroit, might hit up MHP for the stage 1 tranny tune. Do they have a complete repair shop there in detroit area, MHP that is???

Don't know any in Detroit or really anyone that has worked on the new Dodge tranny. I go to Pioneer Transmission in my hometown of Lapeer if your just gonna put a kit in it. I don't think he's worked on the 68 Dodge though. Ask for Rob. Steer clear of any of the Dodge Dealerships in Flint or Lapeer. Bad luck with all of them & the techs are brain dead (paycheck collectors).

Gonna call BGChrysler in the morning. They have shop in warren. They are the ones who make the MHP tunes also. They specialize in doge/chyrsler, but doesnt say anything aboiut trannies. But they make tunes for our trucks.
Also looking at possible buying a 2003 7.3 with 30,000 origianal miles for cheap. See if I can work out a deal. Truck looks mint!!!

One of our guys just lost his in his 2007. Has 369k on it. Torque converter went bad. He his having the whole thing done. Said it would be like 4k.
He is having his done up in New York.
Still, they are pretty good trannies.

4000 on a 5.9, wow, he must a went full race. I can get a 5.9 rebuilt with a cheap tc for under 2000.
As for the 6.7, im hoping that my TC is still good, hate to rebuild a tranny with stock TC, but the TC by itself is 1300. Everything I read the 6.7 makes TC's really good and dont break. Its just the 5/6 gear clutches are the worst, let alone the TCM is a POS also. Seems like nobody wants to pick up there phones this morning, which sucks, means that I might have to find another shop.
Was looking at the bgperformance section.
$6000 tune for bentley for 50 hp/tq
$1000 tune for bmw/mini 20 hp/tq
Thats crazy, but there Tranny tunes are nice.

I think if I was spending 4k I'd pay the 1k and get an ATS just because of the 5/500 warranty.

Well I got a few quotes. I can get it cheaper for 4000.
They quotes im getting from dodge and few other places are the same.
16 hours labor, roughly 1600 just for labor which includes tear down and up with rebuild.
Dodge stock rebuild kit 1000
suncoast rebuild kit 850
suncoast convertor 1300
dodge convertor 500
Here is ron at suncoast email
We do not install "kits", we sell the kits for others to install. If you come here for the 500HP transmission install your cost would be.
Labor 800.00
Trans 3428.00
TC 1295.00
Thanks Ron
Only difference from having mine rebuilt vs buying is big price difference and a suncoast VB. This is the smaller version. not the good tranny.
Also, we dont need really better VB because we have tranny tunes starting at 350.
So I can have my rebuilt with stock convertor and suncoast rebuild kit for 3000 or 3800 with suncoast convertor. Keep in mind the tune is additional 350. Im still cheaper then a built tranny. And if mine lasted 240k, doing this extra work, even with a stock TC, I would think to get at least 300k out of the next tranny.
Hey Tony, can your guys shop quote me also for labor if I bring the parts??? This would be a rebuild, not a tranny swap....

Keep in mind for this warrenty to work, you have to ship your tranny to colorado, I dont think they have dealers for them like suncoast does.
Keep in mind also that letter that went around about a year ago with this emmsion crap, that didnt make ATS look to good, especially for that letter to go public as it did.

Yeah I agree. ATS makes cool stuff. Ive been to there store a few times. They have pretty much sold me on there turbo when mine comes due. I also want there cooler and ex manifold.
The employees trucks parked around there would make any dodge guy slobber..:o

$800 labor thats insane for a 2wd. I could get an r&r done for about half that here.

Tell me about it. 800 for rr and 800 for rebuild is sickening together. Im calling more places nationally and maybe just transfer my insurance and IRP to another dually for a month till I figure out which route im going with the tranny or another truck. But it seems like the 68 is really finnicky for some reason????
As for the letter, i dont know if its still around on the forums or got deleted but this was when HS PERFORMANCE and the other were doing DPF deletes and ATS had a letter basically naming out companys saying this is illegal because there were doing R And D on dpf working performance exhaust. Little did they know at the time, dpfs are almost phased out already for something different.
But then again, this was along time ago and I didnt care about the whole story.
Not dissing ATS at all, but there prices are no different from anybody elses and there warrenty thing is kinda catchy with the fine print. Let alone, like I said, I dont think they have dealers let alone dealers that carry over warreny work.

I found a used one for 2250 http://www.olesouthauto.com/
I have had great luck using used parts. I even pick up ac compressors, alternators, and most any small parts for my truck at junk yards.
I wouldnt hesitate at all using a used auto tranny.
Here is where I find all my stuff.

I just searched in the southeast and there is one with 24k miles on it for 1950. Id be all over that one. Its in Ardmore, Ala.
Used parts are the way to fly in this biz. Hell I can put a complete low mileage engine in my truck for 4-5 grand. The second my engine starts acting up, its outa there and a low mile wrecking yard engine goes in.
With that kind of price, who really cares how long it lasts.
Hell I can pick up low mileage G56 manuals all over for less than 2 grand. Many have less than 50 k on them.
I had to replace my whole rear differential last summer cause the carrier bearing race spun in the housing.
I picked up a low mileage rear diff for 1100 in Omaha and put all new bearings in it. I now have 100k on the diff and it has worked great.

Parts are cheap yes, but then there is install and shipping and time. Keep in mind if I pay 800 to install, im in same price range of getting a suncoast installed if not cheaper. So yes buying used parts is better if you find the right deal, which could be a gamble. As this deal for 1950 is not good in my books. I can grab a tranny with 45k for 1250 right now. But then shipping, waiting, then the gamble of it being abused by a programmer, those gambles I dont like to take for saving just a couple hundos if you know what I mean. Unless I get a tranny for like 700 bucks, its just not worth it. Rather get a fresh rebuild with good aftermarket parts!!!

Yeah. I do all my own work so that makes all the difference. For me I always buy used over new.
Finding a guy capable of a quality tranny rebuild can be about as big of a gamble as a used part. I managed a tranny shop back when I was a kid. We had a good builder and built most every shops trannies in all of southern colorado.
Good Luck coop. Just thought id toss that out there.

I always just hop in my wifes ranger and go pick up my parts too. I went all the way to omaha for my diff. so add 200 for fuel.
I was 2200 in my diff and that included all new bearing and a 300 dollar ats cover. Now my diff holds 8 freaking quarts of mobil 1 85-140. Heck its over 100 bucks to change my diff oil now. But here I am at 100k on that oil and it looks brand new. I think I may put another 50k on it.

Be carefull around 125,000 miles on your rear diff oil. Mine broke down almost instantly around that time. Same here 8 quarts of amsoil SVO, well you may get more mileage, i pull twice the weight of you!!!!!!!!

I am 25800 right now. Plus the wind drag of this 13 foot tall 40 foot long 5er. My weight is same as you, but yes, as soon as that dude is off my back im empty for the return trip.
I ran amsoil too. I wasnt happy with the oil at all. I was running 80-90 severe gear and at 75k it was shot. My diff made 175k and it was done. No more amsoil for me.

I run the 140 weight. Never had any problems with my rear diff. Some loads I do im 30-36k on the scales. my avg is 28-31k.
Gosh, how big of trailers do you pull???
Anywho, everybody has there luck with different brands. I wasnt happy with amsoil in my 68 when I ran it, but amsoil lets me put my oil and filters to the limits in the engine, and im more then happy to run 125k on my diff each time!!!

Hell this trip I didnt even get 8mpg. I burned a ton of fuel across Iowa. Had a 35mph head wind.
Its a toy hauler and its got it all. 80k dollar unit. Just my 3 axles weighs 13k and its got right at a 3k pin weight. 21k rated trailer. I pull tons of these bad boys often.
My truck weighs just over 10k full of fuel and empty. I always bump right up on my 26k allowance.
Im plated for 30k, but id have to buy fuel permits. Colorado plates in groups. Im plated for min 26k and max 30k. Costs me 1100 a year for that. Colorado prolly has highest plates in the nation. rip off assholes

Since I only haul west coast I pull tons of Heartland Cyclones and Road Warriors. Most have a 18k gvwr. Some of there special order models have 21k gvwr. They special orders weigh 15-16 empty. Have 3 flat panels. Marble counter tops, and all leather. Retail in the 100k range. They are freakin beautiful
These 40-41 foot huge toy haulers are very popular out west. I take a ton of these to Alberta too. Those boys got the bucks to play up there. We haul 100's up there each spring.

I guess its all my hitching products and my tools. 1 set of triple rail chains. 2 sets of trailer chains. 115 gals of fuel.
I weighed it last month and it weighs 10280 now. I keep adding stuff, lol Last time I weighed it, it was 9980.
Now Im getting ready to put a generator on. I'll be 10500 before long.. lol

My rear axle weighs right around 9k and my front weighs 5k or so with these dudes. Im pretty close to its axle weight ratings with these special order trailers.
coop, call and talk to Don @ 615.444.8280
As a sounding board if nothing else.
He is right down the street from me.
He and I talked extensively about rebuilding mine when it's time.
He does piecework for the local Aamco.
